Location
140 Pine Street is the Florence Community Center in the Village of Florence, MA. (Florence is a historic and quaint village in the vibrant small city of Northampton.) We are one of a handful of organizations that occupy the top floor of this former grammar school. Our studio overlooks the Congregational Church next door and the Sojourner Truth Statue at the intersection of Park and Pine Street.
Directions
From the North:
Take 91 South to Exit 21. Stay in the right lane from the off ramp. Turn right onto Bridge Road at the first traffic light. You’ll go up a small hill and go straight through the traffic light at the top. Continue about a mile to the next traffic light and turn left onto North Maple Street. You’ll follow that about a half mile to the traffic light at Main Street. Go straight for just a quarter mile, turning right just before the hill onto Pine Street. Go one block to the stop sign. 140 Pine is just ahead on the left, so you go straight for about 30 feet and then turn left into the driveway of the brick building. Park out back and enter the building at the side entrance you drove past. Wave Multimedia is in Studio 8 on the top floor (up a flight and a half) and is the first door on the left.
From the South:
Take 91 North to Exit 19. Go straight at the end of the exit ramp. That puts you on Damon Road, and you’ll follow that, going under 91 and over railroad tracks to a traffic light at King Street—about a mile in all. Go straight through the light. The road changes name to Bridge Road.
From the East (Hadley, Amherst, Downtown Northampton):
Take Route 9 over the bridge and take your first right onto Damon Road. Follow the directions above as if coming from the South.
If you wish to go through or are coming from downtown Northampton, simply stay on Route 9 West past town, Smith College, and Cooley Dickinson Hospital into the center of Florence. At the second traffic light, when the Miss Florence Diner is on your right, you’ll go straight, but turn left just 50 yards ahead at the far end of the island that is part of that intersection. This puts you on Park Street, and you will soon be passing a cemetery on your right. You will also see that you are heading for a brick building at the next intersection. That’s our beloved old school building. Please use caution at this odd intersection by putting on your left blinker (even though you hardly turn at all since the driveway lines-up almost perfectly with Park Street) and yielding appropriately as you cross Pine Street into the driveway of the brick building. Park out back and enter the building at the side entrance you drove past. Wave Multimedia is in Studio 8 on the top floor (up a flight and a half) and is the first door on the left.
From the West:
Take Route 9 East coming into Florence past Look Park on your right. Continue the half mile or so until you’re about to reach Florence Center, but turn right before the island that is part of that main intersection—about 50 or 75 yards before the actual traffic light. This puts you on Park Street, and you will soon be passing a cemetery on your right. You will also see that you are heading for a brick building at the next intersection. That’s our beloved old school building.
